Baby Shower Themes
You don't have to have a theme to give a baby shower. The baby in and of it's self is the theme.
Sometimes though, having a theme can give the shower some individuality and give you
as the baby shower planner, some direction on which way to go with the decorations and food.
Here are some theme ideas for you!
- Nursery Room Theme:
Use the theme the mother has already picked out for the baby's nursery.
For a shower I gave recently the mother had used Suzy's Zoo in the nursery, I was
able to find invitations, plates, cups and other supplies in the same design. Many
of the guests used this theme in the gifts as well and brought Suzy's Zoo baby items.
- Baby Library Theme:
For this theme ask guests to each bring a book as a gift to help start baby's
library. Pick a children's book character and use it as the basis for your decorations.
Mother Goose is a favorite and could actually be a whole other theme by herself!
- Nursery Rhyme Theme:
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.... can you imagine the possiblites with this one?
Use stars as decorations, and invitations. If you can't find any invitations
featuring stars, make some! Decorate with stars by cutting out simple star shapes and
hanging them from the ceiling. If you are having the cake made, have them add some stars
to the decorating. Use you imagination and work with other nursery rhymes to see
what you can come up with!
- Diaper Theme:
New Parents can never have too many diapers! Carry the diaper theme over into the gifts,
have guests bring diapers, and diapering supplies! (Diaper Bags, baby powder, desitin,
baby lotion, changing pads, etc.) You may be able to find some invitations shaped like
diapers, if not and you are creative you could make some. Attatch a small safety pin to the invitation
to look like a diaper pin! One hint though, find out from the mom to be if she is planning on
using cloth or disposable diapers.
- Around the clock:
On each invitation write, a specific time of day. Guests bring gifts that would be appropriate
for that time of day. For example, 3 a.m. - diapers, teething gel, baby blanket; 9 a.m. - something like
a bottle, bib, baby spoon, you get the idea.
- Mommy Shower:
This is a good shower for a couple who already have everything they need for baby.
Shower the mom to be with things she can use either while in the hospital or shortly
after baby is born. Gift ideas include things like a night gowns, slippers, specialty lotions, and
soaps, babysitting coupon & movie tickets, diaper service, maid service.
- Safety Shower:
Have guests bring gifts that have to do with baby's safety, such as safety gates, outlet covers,
tiolet lid locks, cabinet locks, syrup of ipaecac, first aid kit, medicines, doorknob covers,
cabinet locks, etc.
- Noah's Ark Shower:
This is a great theme for anyone having twins! Have guests bring gifts in two's..2 recieving blankets,
2 rattles, etc. Use Noah's Ark decorations.
